NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SINGAPORE STORE WINS ‘BEST NEW ENTRANT OF THE YEAR’ BY SINGAPORE RETAILERS ASSOCIATION AT SRA AWARDS 2009
Singapore’s best retailers were honoured on 29 October 2009 by the Singapore Retailers Association (SRA) for the outstanding impact they have each made on the retail scene through innovation, creativity and retail excellence. National Geographic Store received the coveted “Best New Entrant of the Year” for their newest store in Singapore (VivoCity) that opened its doors last December.
The National Geographic Store is truly one of a kind. As the first such store in Asia, it has introduced several “firsts” to Singapore, including a multi-sensory experience and an inspiring insight into the National Geographic world of exploration, education and conservation. Spanning 1,500 square meters, the captivating store not only offers a wide selection of merchandise from around the world, it also houses a library of travel books, a gallery of ever-changing photo exhibits to entice repeat visitors, an auditorium that screens National Geographic documentaries and even a freezing chamber that simulates sub-zero temperatures. Exciting and refreshing, the store evokes all five senses, and aptly epitomizes the essence of “retailtainment”.
For the 10th year running, winners of the prestigious SRA Awards were recognised by the Association for adding new and exciting dimensions to retail and taking the industry to new heights. More than 750 retailers and industry associates were at the SRA Ball to witness the announcement of the results and the presentation of the awards at Raffles City Convention Centre on 29 October 2009. Supported by SPRING Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board, the awards were presented by guest of honour, Mr. Lee Yi Shyan, Minister of State for Trade & Industry and Manpower, and Dato’ Dr. Jannie Tay, president of SRA.
At the beginning of this year, The National Geographic London Store was chosen as the “Best Licensed Store” 2008 by the world’s leading magazine for the licensed property industry, License! Global.
