ACNE FLAGSHIP STORE LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles
Made by:
Bozarthfornell architects

It's official, downtown Los Angeles is a hipster haven now that Acne have opened up shop there. It's the swedish fashion brand's second store stateside, and at approx. 5,000 sq.ft. [465 sqm.] It's also its biggest yet. Situated on the ground floor of the eastern columbia building, a beautiful art deco-style highrise built in 1930 by architect Claud Beelman, the store bears all the hallmarks of a flagship.

The spacious dimensions are seamlessly compatible with acne's new minimalist retail aesthetic of steel paneling and concrete flooring, concocted by longtime collaborator Bozarthfornell architects. The store configuration is as such that open spaces are alternated with more secluded sections, each presenting a different part of acne's men's and women's collection.

Because of the store's spacious set-up, the visual layering with the mesh metal plates and concrete and stone flooring works more magic here than at the brand's other stores. An added statement is a mushroom sculpture on a circular, mirrored pedestal by belgian artist Carsten Höller. and as if to anticipate downtown L.A.'s golden future as a happening hub of anything cool, elsewhere on the premises Il caffè has opened, a branch of creative director Jonny Johansson's fav coffeeshop back home. An opening dinner and party was held at the eastern columbia building, attended by some of L.A.'s creative movers and shakers and acne dignitaries from Stockholm. location: 855 south broadway [downtown].
